Hello! I’m Maureen and the “M” in M&J Marquee. I was born and raised in NYC and moved to Texas in 2000. I have been a Physician Assistant for the last 27 years and prior to PA School, I worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for 6 years while going to college. I had always loved art and building all kinds of models as a child, but you’re probably asking how did I go from being a PA, a medical professional, to owning a Marquee business? I can thank my daughter. While on a national award-winning dance team, she asked me if I could do something for her and her team, given my craftiness. I asked her what it was she needed and she said “Marquee Letters.” I quickly looked up what Marquee letters were and realized that I didn’t know the official name of lighted letters. I then asked “How big and by when?” and her response was 3 feet and in one week. After the initial shock, I started looking into how to make them and I engaged my friend, Judy to help me accomplish this task. We created our first ever Marquee Letters (CHAMPS) out of foam board and we did it in the week.
